What is an eco-friendly wedding?

"An eco-friendly or sustainable wedding, is a celebration where the couple tries to reduce the event's effect on the environment."

With more eco-friendly products becoming available, such as decorations, options for catering, invitations, and more, have a look to see if you can bring some of these into your event.

ONE - Pick an Eco-Friendly venue

The great outdoors is one i'm very fond of, I understand in the UK this isn't always ideal but there are venues such as: Sherwood Glade who are the first UK venue to try to go carbon negative. There are also other's such as Fforest Weddings, & Camp Katur which are fantastic.

TWO - Floral Choices

Try to find a florist that doesn't use chemicals and uses in season florals for your wedding. Fiona at Daisy Works focusses on sustainability, gathering fresh seasonal flowers from their own flower fields that have grown ‘greenly’ with love, not chemicals.

THREE - Give a gift to the planet

A lot more couples currently have everything they need and with less couples asking for wedding presents from their guests, there is an option to give back to the planet. Perhaps direct your guests to a tree-planting scheme or a local community gardens to off-set the carbon produced.

FOUR - Wedding stationary and invitations

There are so many options out there, I've seen people send their invites and save the date via a website such as Hitched - with all the information in one place, links to transport, hotels etc. If you'd prefer to send them, opt for a supplier that uses seed paper, recyclable paper or DIY plantable invitations via local suppliers via Etsy.

FIVE - Wedding favours

Similar to giving a gift to the planet, your wedding favours could be recyclable paper with some floral seeds in, I love a bee-friendly mix, these could also doubled up as place names on the tables for guests.

SIX - Wedding Caterers

Search for a caterer that uses seasonal produce and local grown items, or even go for a full vegan menu such as Frankie & Dom did at their wedding at Willow Marsh - click here to see their day!
