eyup, I'm Emma!

I'm a UK based photographer inbetween Nottingham & the beautiful Cornwall

It's nice to meet you.

I love pizza, a pint and my mum calls me a ‘fresh air freak’ as I love being outside!

I love to capture the real moments of a wedding day, I get a fuzzy feeling when I've caught a split moment that I know will mean so much. Those big belly laughs, those cuddles with family members and those quiet moments together too.

I love the real side of weddings.

My approacH

I spend your wedding day searching for the real moments that happen, those tears of laughter, the sighs of relief, hugs from friends, even the spilt red wine down your wedding dress, the moments that make life what it is.

The day fly's by so quickly that I do suggest sneaking off for 10-15 minutes for you to have some time together and for us to get some couple photographs. At this point i'll give you some tips, a bit of guidance, prompts to make it easier and we'll have a walk, you'll be talking, immersed in newly wed bliss, and i'll be capturing it. If there's a certain sun spot, or the background behind you makes it seem you have a tree coming out of your head, I will suggest moving, but there will be no 'look at the camera and smile' from me.

WHAT YOU WON’T GET FROM ME;

  • Posed, stop the moment portraits of you individually whilst you’re getting ready - I keep it natural and candid, if you’d like these, please let me know.
  • Stopping you every 2 minutes to move direction, be positioned or take you away from the moment you’re in.
  • Group photos that take a long time, they’re kept short and sweet — a classic family shot ‘mantelpiece’ and a relaxed one, with room for any specifics you want.
  • As much as I am a chatterbox and will talk to anyone, I take a step back during moments you’re having with your loved ones, I’m an observer first and then a participant of your wedding day.
  • Heavily directed couple photos, just some gentle guidance to help you feel at ease and look naturally brilliant

Sounds like the kind of wedding photographer you'd like? Head over to my contact page to see if i'm available on your date.

About me

I’m proud to be a member of the sustainable wedding alliance, supporting a more environmentally conscious and thoughtful wedding industry. My connection to nature also extends beyond photography, I recently completed my level 2 RHS qualification in horticulture, deepening my appreciation for seasonal flowers, landscapes and the changing natural environments that inspires so much of my work.

I’m especially drawn to relaxed weddings rooted in nature, from coastal celebrations in Cornwall to woodland ceremonies and outdoor gatherings that embrace personality, creativity and sustainability.

I don't feel at home in front of the camera or being told to smile/say cheese, look at the camera etc I just feel uncomfortable. I promise to never ask you to ‘smile’ as I know how it feels!

I’m happiest watching the sea, staring up at the trees or Kingfisher watching whilst paddleboarding or playing games in the van after being on a long walk in the countryside. I like to live by the sun and see both the sunrise and sunsets if possible, I do like sleep too. For me in-between weddings and capturing events winter is a chance to hibernate and get cosy.

I live in the Midlands currently but we’re moving to Cornwall (‘where I was born!) that’s me, my husband Adam and our gorgeous ginger rescue cat, Ernie. I’m also a big music lover from supporting local bands down the pub, to going to the big festivals over the UK.

I love each and every single wedding I get to document. I have a soft spot for those weddings that really push the boundaries of traditions.

shall i bore you with How I BECAME A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER....?

In 2005 I was given a little digital camera, I started playing around and had this excitement in my belly that I still feel now when I've caught a moment. Even if those years I spent some (too much) time taking the classic myspace photos, photography became something creative for me. I decided I wanted to do it at college but felt pressured by society to go down the a-level route and do more academic courses such as English. It was obvious photography was my favourite subject but unfortunately my college didn’t run the second year a level course. I enrolled onto an evening course at a Sheffield college on a Wednesday evening to get my full a level course. My mum drove me the hour round trip there every week as I was only 17 (thanks mum!) I then went onto university at Staffordshire to study for a Bachelor of Arts in Photography, achieving a 2:1 in the summer of 2011.

After university there was an uncertainty on what direction I wanted to take in life, a 20 something fresh out of university, I just knew I needed to work and money to pay my bills so worked as a waitress whilst searching for other things. The world felt so open to me and there was so much I wanted to do. I toyed with the idea of living in London, viewed some apartments in Manchester and thought the city life would be for me. Photography jobs were far and few between but I saw a role advertising working on a cruise ship. My mind was racing with the possibility of travel, photography whilst earning and seeing the world. Sign me up. I worked for just under a year onboard travelling to amazing places such as Iceland, Italy, Norway to name a few and making lifelong memories. I went back for a second contract and spent a winter in the Caribbean, island hopping, rum drinking and working hard. My senior photographer walked past me shouting, “Emma, grab your camera…” this happened often if there was an event happening, dolphins spotted, a special sunset etc. I asked where we were going and she said to photograph a wedding. I stopped in my tracks and panicked, I’d never done anything like it, felt it was out of my depth and something I’d always known to be stressful. It was magical. I felt that I was witnessing something so private and so special, moments shared between loved ones, capturing photos that people would forever cherish.

Fast forward to today, I’ve been photographing weddings and building my business over the last 6 years whilst working alongside as an estate agent, property photographer, bar maid and dominos delivery driver (pizza is life!) 2020 was my first full year without any other work, but we all know how that turned out. Since the C-word, it's been such a busy time and i'm so grateful for all my couples. If you'd like to see some of the lovely things they've said about me check it out over on google for over 50, 5* reviews!
